Talent Trees
Each Talent Tree branches out into 20 Talents that represent unique-abilities, perks, and maneuvers your Character can acquire and develop as they advance Levels. Organized into 23 specialized Talent Trees, Talents form thematic pathways allow Players to specialize and unlock distinct advantages shaping their playstyle. For instance, the Olympiad Talent Tree grants bonus movement speed and athletic prowess, the Scout Tree enhances tracking and reconnaissance abilities, and the Performer Tree unlocks charisma-based buffs and crowd control effects. Talent Trees are paired with corresponding Character Professions, forming the foundation of Character specialization and providing Profession bonuses. Additionally, each Talent Tree is paired with an NPC Disposition - specialized NPC only Profession roles your Character will encounter and work with through trade and services. A warrior with high Patriarch talents might commission a master blacksmith NPC (aligned to the Patriarch Disposition) to forge enhanced armor, gaining access to rare weapon upgrades and crafting bonuses. Similarly, a rogue with Scout talents benefits from trading with a Field Medic NPC, receiving discounts on remedies and potions that restore stamina between encounters. Purchased using REM Points, Players establish Talents as they level up, allowing them to unlock new Talents or advance through trees - refer to page x, Attribute Development. By strategically selecting Talents and also investing in Skills and Traits (TST) development, Players shape their journey and create unique builds adapted to any challenge the game presents.
Synergy Through Pairing: Each Talent Tree is paired with a Profession. When you advance the Profession bonus talent within your Talent Tree, you gain bonuses to all checks related to your paired Profession. This creates synergy, investing in both a Talent Tree and its paired Profession yields greater returns than developing either alone. For example, a Bounty Hunter who advances their Profession bonus talent gains enhanced bonuses to Engineer profession checks.
What is the NPC Disposition System?
Each Talent Tree is paired with an NPC Disposition-a thematic archetype representing the specialized NPC roles your Character will encounter and work with in the game world. NPC Dispositions are a mechanical and narrative system that connects Player character specialization to consistent NPC archetypes, creating meaningful relationships and encounters.
How It Works: When you select a Talent Tree, you establish which types of NPCs your Character naturally works with or relies on. For example, a Character developing the Detective Talent Tree encounters Guards (the paired Disposition); a Character in the Representative tree negotiates with Scribes; a Character in the Field Medic tree seeks help from Innkeepers. A Game Master uses these Dispositions to quickly populate NPCs that complement your Character's expertise and provide meaningful mechanical and narrative connections throughout the campaign. See the NPC Dispositions reference for the complete list.
